In a world... Where the First Flame Endures, where the Nameless King (here named Gwyntaran), manages to overthrow Gwyn and rules a united Lordran, one that incorporates gods, dragons and humans in "relative" harmony. 

Since the First Flame doesn't fade, Gwyn, after a LOT of time has passed, became increasingly megalomaniacal as there was nothing left to keep him grounded. Gwyn became increasingly more ambitious, and wanted to make sure that all the kingdoms of the world was under his thumb, directly or indirectly.

One method was included his firstborn into a political marriage with one of the daughters of Izalith, tying the two nations into one state. Gwyn specifically wanted him to be wed to the daughter who managed to create an an entirely new form of fire magic, one without need of a catalyst, Quelana. In his mind, not only would it tie Anor Londo to Izalith, the combined might of the Heir to the Lightning and the Mother of Pyromancy should dissuade any challengers for succession, just in case anything were to happen to him.

The plan worked... and promptly blew up in Gwyn's face.

In this AU, as Gwyn's change from "Firm, but otherwise good ruler" to "My way goes or else" is a lot more gradual (and escalating), it gives other characters much more time to reevaluate their opinions on him, and so NK would have a lot more supporters besides the dragons. As Gywn antagonizes more people, and using his own family for ultimately less-than-noble purposes (coughFilianoreintheRingedCitycough), Ornstein this time, follows his first friend and mentor, and serves as Captain of the Guard in the new regime.

However, many still stick with the old ways, and others never forgave the Firstborn for allying himself with the dragons (whom, if they were still top dog, Anor Londo wouldn't even exist) and ousting his father (kinslayer they call him), thus many Silver Knights and other member's of the original army left rather than serve the 'usurper'.

Due to this lack of manpower, the Firstborn begins his plan of incorporating humans into the military mix... Including giving his blessing to a knight to found his own covenant... Dedicated to both him and some good old jolly cooperation.
